New Delhi to Host 44th ISO COPOLCO Plenary: Promoting Consumer Engagement and International Standardization


New Delhi, May 22 (KNN) – The 44th edition of the ISO COPOLCO Plenary is set to take place in New Delhi from May 23-26, hosted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The event will be inaugurated by Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, in the presence of Serjio Mujica, the General Secretary of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), along with other esteemed officials from ISO.

ISO COPOLCO, also known as the Committee on Consumer Policy, is a committee under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Its primary responsibility is to advocate for consumer interests during the standardization process and ensure that standards are developed with the needs of consumers in mind.

Over the course of four days, the conference will delve into various themes, including ‘Challenges and Good Practices for Consumer Engagement’, ‘Empowering Consumers for a Sustainable Future’, and ‘Consumer Protection and Legal Frameworks’.

Distinguished speakers, including ministers and renowned individuals from around the world, will lead workshops and deliver addresses during the event. Additionally, panel discussions focusing on consumer engagement will be held, as mentioned in an official statement.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), comprised of 168 member countries, is an international body dedicated to establishing standards that impact a wide range of business and social sectors worldwide.

India has been actively engaged in matters of international standardization and was among the founding members of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

As the National Standards Body of India, BIS plays an active role in international and regional standardization efforts. BIS holds membership in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Indian National Committee (INC), and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
