Defence Ministry and FSSAI Collaborate to Promote Millets and Healthy Eating Habits among Armed Forces

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) have joined forces to promote the consumption of millets and encourage healthy eating habits among the armed forces. The collaboration aims to raise awareness about the nutritional benefits of a diverse diet and the inclusion of millet-based food products among the personnel. As part of this initiative, millet-based menus will be introduced in mess, canteens, and other food outlets under the MoD.

During the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled a book titled ‘Healthy Recipes for Defence,’ which has been developed by FSSAI. The book serves as a valuable resource to promote the consumption of millets, also known as Shree Anna, and highlight their numerous health benefits.

In addition to the armed forces, the MoU aims to encourage the families of military personnel and the wider community to adopt nutritious diets, make healthier food choices, and prioritize food safety. This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of the MoD and FSSAI towards the health and well-being of the armed forces, enabling them to stay strong and resilient in their service to the nation.

The MoU was signed by Lieutenant General Preet Mohindera Singh, Director General (Supplies and Transport), representing the Ministry of Defence, and G Kamala Vardhana Rao, CEO of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. This partnership signifies a significant step forward in promoting the benefits of millets and cultivating a culture of healthy eating within the armed forces.
