BIS Launches Nationwide Awareness Program for Gram Panchayats
In a bid to ensure the effective execution of government initiatives in rural India, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has rolled out an ambitious program aimed at creating awareness and sensitizing Gram Panchayat Presidents and Secretaries across the country. BIS, as India’s National Standards Body, holds a pivotal role in setting standards and assessing product and service conformity. Recognizing the paramount importance of adhering to Indian standards for the welfare of citizens, environmental sustainability, and product/service quality, BIS has initiated this outreach endeavor.
Empowering Gram Panchayats
At the core of this initiative is the aspiration to instill an appreciation of the significance of Indian Standards within Gram Panchayats and to ensure their strict compliance when implementing government programs and schemes at the grassroots level. BIS has embarked on a nationwide campaign, reaching out to all Gram Panchayats across India. As part of this drive, they are equipping Gram Panchayats with booklets containing crucial and relevant Indian Standards from various sectors. These booklets underscore the importance of adhering to these standards while carrying out a multitude of state and central government programs and schemes.
Knowledge and Training
Furthermore, BIS is committed to enhancing awareness and knowledge within Gram Panchayats. To this end, they have initiated comprehensive training programs specifically designed for Presidents and Secretaries of Gram Panchayats. These training sessions are scheduled to be conducted at block and district levels, facilitated through the extensive network of 38 BIS Branch Offices nationwide.
