BIS Jammu & Kashmir Cracks Down on Unscrupulous Manufacturers: Jindal Soap Factory Raided for Violating Quality Standards

Date: July 26, 2023

In a recent operation, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) team from Jammu and Kashmir conducted a search and seizure at M/S Jindal Soap Factory, located in the Wariyana Industrial Complex, Jalandhar. The investigation revealed that the factory was engaged in the manufacturing and sale of Aluminium Alloy Bare Foil for Food Packaging without the mandatory BIS certification mark, raising serious concerns about consumer safety and product quality.

The violation of the quality control order issued by the Government of India prompted the BIS team to take swift action. Substantial quantities of finished and semi-finished aluminium foil were seized during the operation. This unscrupulous activity not only compromises the integrity of the product but also poses potential risks to unsuspecting consumers.

In response to these findings, the BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office is initiating proceedings under the BIS Act, 2016. The gravity of the violation means that the offenders could face imprisonment of up to 2 years or a fine of no less than Rs 2 Lakh.

BIS has been vigilant in its efforts to eradicate the production and sale of counterfeit ISI marked products, which have been deceiving consumers while providing undue profits to the culprits. Consumers are urged to verify the authenticity of ISI Marks on products by visiting the BIS website at www.bis.gov.in or using the BIS Care App.

The raid on Jindal Soap Factory serves as a warning to manufacturers who flout quality standards. BIS continues to uphold its commitment to consumer safety and product integrity, ensuring that only certified and genuine products reach the market.

As part of our collective responsibility, let’s remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to product quality and safety. By staying informed and aware, we can contribute to a safer marketplace and protect ourselves from potential harm caused by substandard products. Together, we can encourage responsible manufacturing practices and promote consumer confidence in the products we use daily.
