Workshop on the Bureau of Indian Standards and Standard Club activities
On Friday, the Standard Club activities and a one-day workshop on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) were organised by Bir Raghab Moran Government Model College (BRMGM College), Doomdooma. The Bureau of Indian Standards and the BRMGMC Department of Mathematics worked together to organise the event. This was handled by the Indian government’s Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution.
Dr. Amorjit Saikia, the principal of BRMGM College in Doomdooma, opened the session. He emphasised the significance of standards in a variety of professions and the necessity for students to be aware of these standards. He also expressed his appreciation for the workshop’s organisation to the Bureau of Indian Standards. Two experts from the Bureau of Indian Standards attended the course. On behalf of BIS, Jishnu Das, a Standards Promotional Officer (SPO), gave a presentation on the organization’s function in product certification.
He described how BIS decides on the quality requirements for Indian consumer goods. In charge of the laboratory at M/S GASGEN Ferro Alloys LLP, Tinku Pal, discussed the significance of upholding quality standards in the manufacturing industry.

He emphasised the value of standards in numerous professions and the necessity of pupils knowing these standards. Additionally, he thanked the Bureau of Indian Standards for planning the training. Two Bureau of Indian Standards resource people attended the workshop. A talk on the function of BIS in product certification was given by Jishnu Das, Standards Promotional Officer (SPO), BIS. He described how BIS decides what is a quality standard for Indian consumer goods. Students could enter a writing contest as part of the workshop. The topic “Indian Standards of Biscuits” was provided to the pupils, and they were instructed to
A panel of judges examined the essays, and the winners were given awards.
The workshop was a great success and helped students understand how important standards are. Additionally, it gave students the chance to learn about the significance of upholding quality standards and the part played by BIS in product certification.
The Department of Mathematics and the BRMGM College in Doomdooma are dedicated to continuing these efforts to provide students with knowledge and hands-on experience with business procedures.
