BIS Enters Collaborative Agreements with 35 Institutions to Advance Standardization Efforts

In a significant move towards promoting standardization and conformity assessment, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has successfully executed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with 35 distinguished institutions. This strategic alliance seeks to foster cooperative initiatives aimed at enhancing the realms of standardization practices. Among the institutions involved are prominent National Institutes of Technology (NITs), government entities, and private engineering colleges hailing from diverse regions across the nation.

One of the pivotal prospects arising from these agreements is the prospective establishment of a Center of Excellence for Standardization, a groundbreaking initiative that could be pursued in partnership with these respected institutions. This center would serve as a hub for excellence in the field of standardization, fostering innovation and collaboration.

Through these collaborative arrangements, partner institutions will be granted the opportunity to actively engage in standardization endeavors. This will involve their participation in technical committees overseen by the Bureau on both national and international levels. Additionally, the partnership will provide essential infrastructure support for pertinent research and development projects.

The MoUs further entail a series of joint initiatives aimed at bolstering the standardization landscape. These encompass the organization of events focused on Standardization and Conformity Assessment, the exchange of publications, the integration of standardization curricula into academic programs, as well as collaborative efforts in testing and Conformity Assessment. The sharing of laboratory facilities is also a significant facet of this partnership, reflecting a holistic approach to advancing standardization methodologies.

Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of BIS, underscored the pivotal role these esteemed academic institutions play in enriching the process of standards formulation. He emphasized that the MoUs will act as a catalyst for synergistic growth and progress in this vital sector.

BIS, operating as a statutory body under the purview of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution within the Government of India, encompasses a range of critical initiatives. These encompass Product Certification, Management Systems Certification, Hallmarking of Gold and Silver Jewelry/Artifacts, and Laboratory Services, all of which collectively contribute to ensuring the quality and credibility of products and services in the Indian market.”
